Reinvent the Look of Your Skin: Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex Review

Did you know you have a better chance of saving your skin if you start using anti-aging products in your 20s and early 30s instead of waiting until time ravishes your face with wrinkles? However, it is never too early or too late to begin taking better care of it. Thanks to iFabbo, I had the chance to see what I thought ofHydroxatone's AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex.
This luxurious cream is packed with beneficial ingredients like hyaluronic acid for plumping and help in filling in wrinkles while also retaining moisture with argireline, an anti-aging peptide, Matrixyl3000 to stimulate collagen, and SPF 15 protection for sun defense against harmful UVA/UVB rays.

Furthermore, this is a multi-tasking product that you can use on your face and safely on your eyes according to the company.  Saving money always appeals to me.  Therefore, it this cream could successful replace a few jars with one and help streamline my vanity, I was even more excited to see how well this cream worked.

Using mornings and nights, my sensitive skin reacted without any irritation problems and found the formula quite gentle.  Now that my normal dry skin changed due to warm weather into combination skin, the way this cream hydrates without bogging it down with heaviness or any greasy appearance was another plus.

Although I haven't been using this silky, yellow-colored cream all that long, I did like the way my fine creases around my eyes were already looking somewhat smoother.  If this is any indication of what this product can do, I do look forward to further improvements over time.

I do recommend trying this product yourself and put it to your own test.  You can find Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex at ULTA for $69.95.

Natural Ways to Clear Acne

Acne can seem like a lifelong enemy. There are many pills, creams and cleansers that rid your skin of those awful bumps. But if you are looking for a simple routine that contains no chemicals and can be found in your kitchen, here is a six step natural routine to stay acne free.

1. In the morning, rinse your face with warm water and then massage your face with a ½ teaspoon of Manuka honey or raw honey into skin and rinse. Honey has great antibacterial properties. Manuka honey has extra antibacterial properties which makes it a great choice for your skin.

2. In the mornings and evenings, spray your face with rose water toner. Rose water contains pH balancing properties and is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. It is also very refreshing and perfect for traveling.

3. If you need to use a moisturizer, use jojoba oil moisturizer. You can also add other essential oils to your homemade moisturizer such as lavender, tea tree, thyme, rosemary, chamomile or geranium. If you add an essential oil, use 10-12 drops for every 1 oz of jojoba oil. Tea tree essential oil is the best to use if you have a lot of acne.

4. Make your own spot treatments and scrubs using Manuka or raw honey, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix equal parts honey and cinnamon and add a pinch of ground nutmeg and mix into a paste that is neither too thick nor too runny. Store it in the fridge. When you use, put on trouble spots or your whole face twice a week to get rid of acne. Just don’t apply to any parts of your skin that might be broken or very irritated.

5. Use a clay mask once a week. You can buy clay from a health food or natural foods store. Let it sit until it dries and then rinse off. This helps get rid of any stubborn blackheads.

6. In the evening, remove makeup and dirt with oil. It might sound counteractive to cleanse with oil, since oil can contribute to acne, but it works. Try coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil and use 1 teaspoon on dry skin. Massage and then rinse with warm water.

Avoid these 4 common beauty faux pas

If using the wrong foundation color has you looking like a pasty mess, or tweezing your brows too much has you looking permanently surprised, you’re guilty of committing a beauty faux pas. Although these little beauty mishaps can be frustrating at the time, there are ways you can avoid them in the future.

Concealer/Foundation

Whether you’ve picked the wrong color or simply used too much, making a mistake on your concealer/foundation application can affect your whole look. If you’re not sure what color you should choose, ask a professional at a cosmetic counter in the mall or where you purchase your makeup. Many women will need to buy two different shades — one for the winter and one for the summer. When it comes to application, less is often more. If you’ve purchased a quality product, it should offer good coverage. That means applying too much will make your skin look pasty. Cosmopolitan magazine recommends using a makeup brush and liquid foundation to get thin, even coverage that’s similar to airbrushing. Keep in mind that concealer is meant to conceal blemishes and other imperfections you want to hide. It’s not necessary to apply concealer all over your face.

Lip Liner
When it comes to your mouth, there are few things more unsightly than a dark ring around your lips. Many women make the mistake of using a lip liner that’s darker than their lipstick to line their lips, when they should actually use one that’s lighter. You can also choose a lip liner that’s close to the natural color of your lips. Another way to avoid the dreaded dark ring is by applying lip liner all over your lips instead of just on the outline. Not only will the liner help your lipstick stay on longer, it will also keep it from smudging.

Eyeshadow
If people are confusing your smokey eye for a black eye, you’re definitely doing something wrong. Instead of just slapping the darkest eye makeup you have on your eyes, make sure you use at least three shades of a similar hue. Although you can create a smokey eye with any colors, make sure you’re using a highlight/base color, a medium color, and a dark color. The most important part of creating a smokey eye is blending. For best results, use a fluffy blending brush and blend from the inside corner of the eye to the outside.

Tweezing
If you’ve ever butchered your eyebrows trying to create the perfect arch, you’re not alone. Fortunately, thicker, natural-shaped eyebrows are now in style. But just because you don’t have to do as much plucking, doesn’t mean you should abandon the tweezers completely. Before tweezing, use a brow pencil to create the desired shape of your brows. The brow pencil not only serves as a guide, it also gives you an idea of how your brow shape will fit your face. For best results, try tweezing your brows after showering, while using a regular mirror. Many women use a magnifying mirror to see better, but that type of mirror can be deceiving, making it appear that you have more hairs to pluck than you actually do. If you’ve made a mistake on your brows and plucked too many hairs, don’t panic. Use a brow pencil that matches your brow color to fill in any sparse areas. By the way, if tweezing your brows is just too painful to bare, dab a small amount of numbing gel on your brows before tweezing them.

Body Wash, Brazilian Wax, Skin Care – a Modern Woman’s Daily Diary

Two new Soap Bars on white background.Earlier, things were simple. For example, there was only bar soaps. Shampoos were only cleansing agents, and so on. Today, there are bar soaps and there are liquid soaps. In the beginning, the liquid ones were used only for washing hands. Now, you have body washes that claim to give you a fresh and pleasant bathing experience.

Bar soap vs. body wash
If you analyze, there really is no difference between the two. Both contain fatty acid alkali salts and detergents meant to mix dirt and oil and remove them when washed with water. However, they do more. They also snatch away the natural oils of skin. That’s why you often need to slather moisturizers after bathing.

The newest line of body washes claim to possess in-built moisturizers. Yet experts say that there is hardly a difference between using body washes and bar soaps. Use whatever you like.

DIY Brazilian wax – can it be done?
If you are uncomfortable with a stranger staring down at your private parts while waxing, you can do Brazilian wax at home. However, be ready to tolerate the excess pain. This is because there is a difference when an amateur like you removes hair through wax and when a professional does it. In spite of this, if you are adamant in doing it yourself, make sure you have a good mirror in hand.

Secrets to perfect skin
The secret is that there are no secrets! Regular and proper care of your skin is enough to flaunt healthy, glowing complexion irrespective of your age. Also, you must use age-appropriate skin products. As your skin matures, its needs and care changes. Listen to your skin and adopt age-appropriate skin care.

The traditional skin cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine is still in fashion. It will always be. Clean skin is the key to healthy complexion. Well-moisturized skin is the key to its youthfulness.

While pampering your skin, do not forget to solve under-eye issues like dark circles, crow’s feet, fine lines, and puffiness. Remember; there are separate creams for the area under the eyes. They contain specific elements meant to take care of the extremely delicate area under your eyes.

According to skin experts, you must not rub the area under eyes due to its high delicacy. It can damage the skin. While using an under eye cream, pat the formula with your fingers on the area, instead of rubbing at it.

Whether it is wax, skin care, or cleansing of your body, choose the right products; be gentle and loving to your body; and listen to its subtle signals.

Smoother Shaving Advice

Shaving - woman removing leg hair (close up)

Shaving is that annoying thing that most women do daily. Here are some tips to make hair removal better, faster, easier and have those smooth limbs for longer.
1.       Exfoliate before you shave. If exfoliate before you shave, you get rid of dead skin cells that can hinder a really close shave.
2.      If you run out of shaving cream, use hair conditioner or shower lotions. You might also want to try shaving with baby oil for a really close shave. Just keep in mind it will gunk up your razor.
3.      If you use disposable razors, use a new one every three uses.
4.      Shave downwards then upwards for the closest shave possible. This also works great for those who have sensitive skin.
5.      Never slide a razor sideways across your skin or you’ll end up with lots of cuts.
6.      Don’t shave over any existing wounds.
7.      Bend your knees when you are shaving your knees to avoid missing any sections.
8.     Use razors with five blades. Don’t be afraid to try men’s products because often they work really well for shaving your legs.
9.      If your armpits tend to become very dark, try natural treatments to help lighten the hair and skin such as cucumbers and lemon juice. You can also try waxing to help pull the hair out at the root and lighten the look of your skin without hair.
10.  If your skin gets irritated from shaving, use after shave solutions such as aloe vera gel, baby oil or a cold compress to soothe the skin. Put on lotion when your skin is damp to ensure it is sucking in all the moisture.
11.   Make your own shaving creams! Use ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil and essential oils to make a natural shaving cream.
12.  Pull the skin taut to help the blade move across the skin easier. Only do this if it doesn’t irritate the skin.
13.  Use short strokes to avoid cutting yourself accidentally, especially around tricky areas like your knees.
14.  Don’t use soap because it will irritate your skin and could cause you to cut yourself easier.
15.   Lastly, if you’re fed up with shaving, waxing and everything else, try laser hair removal. It can be costly, but it will save you money in the long run that was spent buying shaving products.

3 Makeup Mistakes that Make you Look Old

When it comes to trying to pick the right make up for a night out, it can become pretty difficult to choose what is actually going to make you look great. Makeup tips can also be difficult to pick between because some tips are right for one face but totally wrong for another! Therefore, trying to get the right makeup tips for your face can lead to significant problems and actually make yourself look older!

We aren’t going to give you any makeup tricks that are going to make you look “a hundred years younger” but we definitely want to give you some mistakes that you should definitely avoid making.

Mistake One – Too Much Foundation
Picking a foundation which is too thick will settle into the lines on your face, as well as start to take the luminosity out of your face. You should make sure that you are using make-up to compliment a natural look, not hide it!

You don’t need to cover every part of your face with foundation, try and avoid any “matte” or “velvet” formats and try and look for sheer liquid formulas that also have a light diffusing pigment about them. When it comes to foundation, less is most definitely more!

Mistake Two – Too Much Makeup Under Your Eyes
Because the skin under your eyes is pretty thin, trying to completely conceal eye circles is going to leave your eyes looking a little bit strange. A thick concealer that comes in a pot will definitely get rid of the shadows, but it might make you look a little unbalanced in the face, too.

Try and go for a highlighter pen – preferably a brush-on equivalent – that use illuminating particles rather than an opaque colour. This looks far more natural and balanced, which should be one of your main priorities when it comes to trying to make your face look right with makeup tricks.

Mistake Three – Deep Lipstick
Your lips naturally are red, so when you apply another layer of red it can make you look a little bit crazy. As we all know, darker colours make something appear smaller and this is not something that you exactly want to do with your lips. Rather you want your mouth to look as light and full as possible, so go for a lighter colour like a peachy or vibrant red.

This looks much better than using a deeper lipstick that can actually make your face look a little bit thinner and older. These simple solutions are great ways for keeping your face looking clear and safe, leaving a more natural look than before.

What To Do For Dry Scalp

Unless you’re hitting the slopes, cold winter weather usually isn’t much fun. When it’s causing dry, itchy skin, though, it becomes a serious pain.
Because let’s face it – whether you’re dealing with a parched face, scaly legs, or rough elbows, dry skin can be really uncomfortable.

But when you find yourself with dry skin on your scalp, it’s not just about discomfort – it can be embarrassing too. I mean, no one wants unsightly white flakes on the shoulders of their coat, sweater or shirt, right?
So if you’re battling a dry scalp this winter and want to get rid of it as quickly as possible, here are some key tips for maintaining a healthy scalp no matter how cold it might be outside.

1. Find the Cause
When your scalp starts to get dry, itchy, and produce those hard-to-miss flakes, you probably suspect dandruff. But dry scalp and dandruff aren’t the same thing – and dry scalp is usually more common. It occurs when the skin lacks moisture, while dandruff is a fungal condition. Both can cause itching and dry flakes, but the flakes associated with dandruff tend to be larger, yellowish in color, and greasy. With dry scalp, flakes are typically small and white.
Your scalp can become dry for several reasons. As with the skin on the rest of your body, cold winter air can rob your scalp of moisture and leave it itchy and flaky. But you aren’t only at risk for dry scalp in cold weather. Excessive heat styling, harsh, clarifying shampoos, and styling products that tighten as they dry can all do the trick too. Try to figure out the culprit behind your dry scalp so you can address the problem right away.

2. Get Your Scrub On
Just like with dry skin anywhere on your body, exfoliating often helps with a dry scalp. By removing the top layer of dead skin, you’ll get rid of all those annoying flakes and prepare the area to absorb any moisture that you apply. Create a paste with several tablespoons of brown sugar and some olive oil, and use it to scrub your scalp in a circular motion when you’re in the shower. Rinse your hair thoroughly and follow up with your regular shampoo and conditioner.

3. Boost the Moisture
Dry skin lacks moisture, so it needs a serious dose of hydration to get back to normal. If you’ve been using a strong clarifying shampoo or a formula designed for dandruff control to get rid of your flakes, you’re actually doing more harm than good. Instead, switch to a moisturizing shampoo such as the Paul Mitchell Lavender Mint Moisturizing Shampoo or the Aveeno Nourish + Moisturize Shampoo to ensure that your scalp is properly hydrated.

If you’re using a moisturizing shampoo and your scalp is still dry, try a hot oil treatment like the L’Oreal Paris Hair Expertise Oleo Therapy Self-Heating Hot Oil for more intensive hydration.

4. Cool Off
When you’re dealing with dry scalp in the winter, it’s probably hard to think of too much heat as a bad thing – but it can dry out your skin big time, so it’s best to reduce the amount that your scalp receives. That means cutting back on blow drying as much as possible. One way to limit your need for a dryer is to wash your hair every other or every few days. Not only does it stop you from having to blow dry your tresses every day, it allows the natural oils in your scalp to build up and keep the area moisturized.

But when you do wash your hair, don’t use hot water. Opt for cool or lukewarm water that won’t strip the skin and leave it dry.

facial serums | what are they & why do i need them

facial serums | what are they & why do i need them

What are serums

Serums are more concentrated then the regular run of the mill daily moisturizer. They are meant to treat facial concerns such as redness, dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles, dehydration, dullness, and the like. Most are on the thicker side- but are a liquid formula- and their formulas include powerful antioxidants and vitamins. Serums also come in specific facial features- meaning they make one for all over the face and ones that are just for the under eye area.

How do you use serums

Serums are meant to be added to your daily skin routine- but some can also be used as a standalone product at night (ie. dr. brandt® glow by dr. brandt® overnight resurfacing serum).

When adding to your daily skin routine, wash your face, use toner, smooth the serum all over your face, wait for your face to dry, and then layer your moisturizer over the serum. Once everything is dry, add your makeup and do what you usually do. Basically: wash -> tone -> serum -> moisturize

Of course if using a toner irritates your skin, then skip it. The main thing is to add the serum to your face before moisturizing.

Why should I add a serum to my beauty routine

Serums are able to penetrate the deeper layers of skin that your regular moisturizer is unable to.

Where can I buy serums

Honestly, you can buy serums almost anywhere nowadays. And they really aren't that expensive. Target has a nice array of eye and face serums to fit every budget, as do Birchbox, Sephora, and Ulta. And I'm relatively sure Walgreens, Amazon, and Walmart do too.

How do I pick a serum

There are so many serums on the market today, and it's really hard to decide which one is for you, especially if you are wanting to pay a pretty penny for a good one.

First, you need to figure out what serum you are looking for- face, eyes, all over, or both. If you don't know, it's ok- you are probably just wanting a general- all over- serum then.

Second, you need to figure out what you are trying to correct. Do you suffer from redness, fine lines, dark spots, etc. and want to correct that? Since some serums are facial ailment specific, it helps to know. But don't worry- there is a good amount of serums out there that actually do everything.

Third, I would recommend that you make a trip to Sephora and try some serum samples out. Most of the customer service ladies should know their serums/face products, so ask them questions- they can point you int he right direction. And you can try up to three samples on each visit- just tell them you are in the market for a serum and need to find the right one for you.

Home Remedies for Skin Care Issues: Tackling Pimples and Pimple Scars

Pimples are irritating. They are one of the worst nightmares for a woman. And pimple scars? They are like death . . . of beauty.

Home-Remedies-to-Rid-Your-Skin-of-Stretch-Marks

Tons of confidence won’t do what just five things for skin care can do.

The First Thing
Cinnamon, a common spice in the kitchen, can now give you good skin. Never imagined it, right? Cinnamon’s essential oil possesses a powerful antimicrobial property. Honey has low water activity, so it contains less moisture, which discourages microbe growth. Dermatologists say that pimples erupt from skin pore infections. So, combining honey with cinnamon is a smart way to curb pimples.

Do this: Mix some drops of honey into cinnamon powder, and make a paste. Please don’t add water. Dab some paste on the pimples and let it stay overnight. Wash your face the next morning with lukewarm water.

The Second Thing
Lemon can be your best friend when it comes to killing pimples. It has phytonutrients, known as flavonoids, and Vitamin C. Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants and exhibit strong antibiotic action. They prohibit the action of free radicals. Skin experts love lemons when it comes to acne-prone skin care.

Do this: Dab some fresh lemon juice directly on the pimple. Let it stay overnight. Wash it off the next morning.

Mix one tablespoon of groundnut oil in the same amount of fresh lemon juice. Apply the mixture all over your face. This is a preventive measure against pimples. This also works on blackheads.

Expert comment: Please do not venture out in the sun immediately after applying lemon juice on your face as the juice can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

The Third Thing
Try tomatoes. They possess an acidic nature. Tomato pulp dries up pimples and tightens skin pores. This decreases pore blockage. Tomatoes are loaded with antioxidants. They decrease damage and inflammation of the skin.

Do this: Take the freshly squeezed pulp of a tomato, and apply it directly on the pimple. Do this just once a day as it can be drying to the skin. In case you feel excessive drying or irritation on skin, add some water to the pulp to dilute its acidity, and then apply it.

The Fourth Thing
Good old turmeric, which is famous in India for healing wounds, can be an excellent remedy for skin care. Medical experts have established its healing properties. According to them, it contains elements that give turmeric a strong antimicrobial quality.

Consumption and application of turmeric help to keep your skin healthy and flawless. Don’t believe it? Ask your Indian friends!

This is what you can do with turmeric:
·         Apply a little bit of turmeric directly on the skin by forming a paste with rosewater.
·         Mix a pinch of turmeric powder in warm milk, and gulp it down. It heals skin infections from the inside. You can even eat raw turmeric slices as salad. It purifies the blood, which in turn, improves your skin health.
·         Make a paste of a little turmeric powder and coconut oil. Apply it directly on your pimple, and leave it overnight. Wash it off with water.
·         Take some ground, dried Neem leaves, and make a paste by adding equal quantities of turmeric powder and rosewater to it. Apply it on your pimples. Let it stay for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash it off with water. You can replace Neem powder with sandalwood powder. Where Neem has antimicrobial properties, sandalwood has a soothing effect on the face.

The Fifth Thing
This is for those nasty pimple scars. Again, sandalwood is the best choice, say experts.

Do this: Soak a sandalwood piece in water for several hours. Take the piece out, dry it, and store it. You can reuse it. Now, take a swab of cotton, and dip it in the sandalwood water. Smear it on your pimple scars. Repeat this daily for a week or two. You will notice a difference in your complexion.

You also can make a paste of sandalwood and rosewater. Apply it on acne scars, and let them stay overnight. Wash your face with cold water the next morning.

There is no end to home remedies for skin care, especially skin that is prone to pimples and damaged by scars. Pick a remedy that works best on your skin. Dermatologists are of the view that elements lying on your kitchen shelves are safer and more effective than those lying on market shelves. This may not be a hard and fast rule, but home remedies do work. Try them. What you will get is better-looking skin in the end.

Styling Tips for Fine Hair

Stylist drying hair of a female client at the beauty salon

If you have fine hair, you know the frustration of trying to style your hair. Curls never stay curly for long and your hair can turn limp, lifeless and greasy in an instant. Here are some tricks on getting the hair you want more easily:

1. Cleanse your scalp properly. Shampoo your hair only at the roots and the scalp. If you shampoo the rest of your hair thoroughly, it will only dry out your hair. Flip your hair over in the shower and scrub your scalp.

2. You may not even need conditioner if your hair gets very oily, but if you like a little conditioning, use only a little and avoid the scalp. Too much conditioner at your roots can weigh your hair down.

3. Use a volumizing mousse. Look for one with no synthetic fragrances but one that is hydrating with essential oils. This will hydrate and protect your hair and give you the volume you crave. Also experiment with light hairspray and teasing to give your hair a boost.

4. Use your products wisely. Use a volumizing mousse on damp hair a few inches away from the scalp, work through the ends and then use a volumizing spray all over. Allow your hair to air dry before you straighten or curl it because additional styling to wet hair can make it appear thinner. This being said, don’t use a lot of products at once as this will just weigh down your hair and make it appear even thinner.

5. If you do need to dry your hair to head out quickly, flip your hair upside down and dry it that way. It will maximize volume.

6. Choose a signature style that works best for your specific hair type. Ask your hairstylist what style and products will work best with your hair type and play around with a few different types before you pick one you love.

7. Lastly, just love the hair you have! Thick haired girls often wish their hair was a little thinner and your hair looks great in ponytails and many styles. Try different styles and cuts and be thankful for the hair you’ve been given.
